MY LIFE

At first glance a Curriculum Vitae may seem like a simple list of names, places and dates, but we know it’s way more than that.
When your work becomes a passion, your professional journey becomes a life journey. Every word speaks of encounters, challenges, difficult and wonderful moments and emotions, doubts and hopes, mistakes and choices.
And let’s not forget our first times. The first steps in a dance school, on stage, the first applause, the first argentine tango Abrazo, the first Sun Salutation on our yoga mat, the first thank you received from a student.

This list is extremely short, it would take endless pages to describe all the emotions shared with the many wonderful and unique talents, my traveling companions.

Dance : breathe the emotion

I began ballet at the age of six, at the Centro Studi Danza in my hometown, La Spezia (Italy).
I immediately loved the discipline, the precision of the movements, the emotion of dancing each gesture in harmony with the music. From the very first lessons, ballet became a passion and my life.

my journey

My passion for ballet becomes a life choice when, at the age of 16, I participated in the competition Venezia Danza Europa ’81 and won a three-year scholarship to continue my studies at the prestigious Mudra International School, directed by Maurice Béjart in Brussels.

Then everything happened very quickly.
My professional career begins with my first contract for Jiří Kılıan at the Nederlands Dans Theater.
For three years, I experienced how much work and discipline are required by the art of dancing and I discovered the emotion of dancing in Europe’s most beautiful theaters. I have the privilege of performing some of the most beautiful choreographies by Jiří Kilián, Hans van Manen and Nacho Duato and being on tour across Europe and the United States.

Afterwards, I joined the company of the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève, directed by Oscar Araiz, where I performed the principal roles in the choreographies of Oscar Araiz, Jiri Kilian, Christopher Bruce, Ohad Naharin and again on tour in Europe, China and the United States.

I returned to Belgium in 1992 and signed a contract as a principal dancer with the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie for the productions of Médéa Material and Dido and Aeneas, directed by Jacques Delcuvellerie and choreographed by José Besprosvany.
The encounter with the choreographer José Besprosvany transformed into a deep artistic complicity. I had the pleasure of performing the lead role in many of his magnificent creations, including Cuarteto, Lara, A propos de Butterfly and The Sleeping Beauty of Dandaka, which we toured in Europe, Mexico and South Korea.

Later, Claudio Bernardo, director and choreographer of Cie As Palavras,
offers me the opportunity to dance on his dance shows Systole and Dilatation, in the creation of the show Nomes and in the performance Le Modèle,
a duet created for the Museum of Contemporary Art in Mons, a beautiful moment of artistic complicity.

And then, one day, the decision to create and bring to stage my personal project : Pagina Bianca, a show in four parts.
Four solo pieces :
– Klanglink, directed by Françoise Berlanger,
– A hora da estrela, choreography by Claudio Bernardo,
– Come il sorriso che non hai dipinto mai, direction and text by Pietro Pizzutti,
– Absentia, choreography by Karine Pontiès.
After the Première at the 2010 Festival Pays de Danse in Liège, Pagina Bianca as being performed at the Théâtre Jacques Franck in Brussels, at the Théâtre de la Place in Liège, in Seoul for the The World Festival of National Theatre 2011 and at the Espace de Cultures in Wavre in Belgium.

Teaching and choreographing ballet for children has been a joy as much as feeling the passion for the performing arts growing in them little by little. Choreographer and ballet teacher for several international schools : St. John’s International School in Waterloo, Belgium,
St. George’s The British International School in Germany, UWC Maastricht School in the Netherlands; as well as for the Erquelinnes Dance School and the New Espace Danse School in Belgium.

Tango Argentino has been another beautiful find thanks to Jean Vinclair, Gustavo Naveira and Giselle Anne. I immediately fell in love with it and tango argentino became a favorite in my repertoire. That led to the creation of the show Dernière Danse à Baja Blanca, ElectroTango, Les Noces for the Logos Theater and the Tango Bohème with the Bruxelles Aires Tango Orchestra at the Boabop Théâtre, in Belgium.

At the same time, under the guidance of yoga master Daniel Sullon, I started my four-year training in Hatha Yoga and Usui Reiki with Reiki master Marie Genon.
Hatha Yoga is a philosophy and a discipline that I integrate into my dance and my teaching, seeking for that sensitivity that makes our movement noble and sincere.
